Drunk Driving and Driving to an Accident

Table of Content

Research shows that driving under the influence of alcohol remains associated with up to 40% of traffic fatalities in the US, despite law enforcement efforts to discourage drunk driving (Hadjizacharia et al.,2010 ). When you are drunk you do not realize what choices you have made and you are not aware of how much danger you are putting yourself in as well as those with you and around you. You should never drink and drive no matter how little or how big you drink. Being under the influence means driving what so ever. When you are under the influence your decision-making part of the brain is not thinking properly so your choices are not chose as clearly as if you were “in your right mind”. When you are under the influence you do things that you will not even remember doing.

Can people really stress how important it is to not drink and drive? It does not matter what age you are. You could be eighteen, fifteen, or even twenty-one. If you want something bad enough, you will figure out how to get it. Why should the legal drinking age be increased or decreased? It is fine where it is at in my personal opinion. The reason why I feel this way is because there are rules for everything. Not everyone is going to obey the rules like they should. Can people stress how important it is to never drink and drive? This kind of hits home to me from issues like this in my very own family. Alcohol is a major factor in traffic crashes, and crashes involving alcohol are more likely to result in injuries and deaths than crashes where alcohol is not a factor.

When there is an age set to doing something there has to be a reason for it. Studies show that our brains are not fully developed until we are twenty- five years old. If we start drinking like a crazy person and turn into an alcoholic and we are only eighteen or nineteen years old that is going to affect parts of our brain that helps us to remember things, act in a well manner and not act like a crazy person. Binge drinking, commonly defined as consuming five or more standard drinks per occasion for men and four or more drinks for women, typically begins in adolescence.
